Hey all, Headhunter Crafts here! I thought it might be good to share a little bit about what I know, and offer some help and advice to the good folk who may be struggling with their cosplays. So, I suppose I should start with a little bit about myself, eh?
I first got into cosplay back in 2014 where, instead of studying for GCSE's, I spent my art classes building the Crescent Rose from RWBY. It was very crude, using cardboard and plaster bandage (mod roc) for the bulk of things, as well as a Nerf gun for the body. When it was done, I though "heck it", I'll get a cape from Wilko (it was near Halloween time) and stich it to a turtleneck for the costume. It was a great experience making and going to con, and that's where my journey began!
Since then, I have made nine cosplays. Three of them are remakes of older ones after I had learned a bit more about crafting things, and it's totally fine to go back and do that kind of thing. It's great to show your creative growth! My first 'proper' cosplay even won Best in Show at Leicester Comic Con which really spurred me on! I ended up going to university to study Prop Making & SFX, so I guess that makes me a qualified cosplayer too. I've won a few awards for my work, including some best-in-shows, runner-ups, and honourable mentions. But besides cosplay, I've also made a variety of other things, from a 1/16 scale chair, to an Anubis statue! Most recently I've been learning to 3D model parts and costumes for printing and pattern making.
I'd like to help out others who want to get into the cosplay scene, as well as those who want pointers to improve. My specialties are more in 'hard' cosplays. That is, armours and weapons. I don't know much in the way of fabrics but intend to learn in time. Even after 6 years and a uni course, there's still plenty for me to learn! So please feel free to head over to my other thread ( viewtopic.php?f=65&t=126959 ) and ask any questions you'd like! I think it'd be better to keep them all in one place so they're easier to find.
And on a final note, I'll put a wide range of my work down below for people to see. And if you'd like to see more, I have a gallery over on my website ( https://headhuntercrafts.weebly.com/ )
Thanks for getting this far down, and happy cosplaying all!
