Battery in smoke alarm

Post by Rich-Allen1976 » 11 May 2024, 19:00

Mum and Dad have a smoke alarm supplied by the local Fire service (they're both over 70, Mum's 75 on Monday), for which the battery cannot be changed without someone from the service does it.

However, it was on announced on the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Facebook page last week that they will no longer do routine fire alarm related calls.

Is there a way to get the battery changed? I am aware of Google and they have fire alarms in North America and Canada.

Battery in smoke alarm

Stand bye on this. I'll ask my son as he used to fit these type of detectors.

Unfortunately, the most common type of smoke detectors fitted by SY Fire service are sealed units, and you can't replace the battery, you have to replace the complete unit.

He says to contact the Central Community Safety Hotline. I'll send you the number.

Tell him thanks, and if you're both in Town this week, I'll shout you a round of coffees.

I don't know, they've not said.
